“404” is a book about my hometown, Chinese factories and working class.

Chinese state-owned factories used to have a code name to distinguish or keep secret. The factory in my hometown is code-named 404, which is a chemical fertilizer factory. Now this factory has been closed because of several reforms, and the original site is now only a piece of ruins. I entered the factory site last year and took a group of photographs, and in the process of shooting, I had the idea of making a book about the factory, because China once had many state-owned factories, which were inextricably linked to the people of this country, but now most of them have closed down or been acquired because of economic reforms, and the workers inside are also facing miserable sufferings, so I made a bunch of seemingly meaningless numbers on the book cover, and these numbers are all represent the once glorious factory, and 404 is just a part of it.

There are two chapters in the book. One chapter is a pamphlet, I bound two pamphlets into a whole book (Z Binding). When finish reading one chapter, it is the beginning of the other.
